Spiritual Emphasis Week: Day 1

This holy week before Easter, the Salem Academy community is taking part in our beloved annual Spiritual Emphasis Week. The days are split into morning Vacation Bible School (VBS) sessions and afternoon chapel. In the morning, secondary upperclassmen have the unique opportunity to mentor and guide our younger students in group activities. This morning the theme was “creation”, focusing on the memory verse in Genisis 1:1. Students engaged in activities that helped them understand the verses they are studying. In one group, older students taught younger kids about the creation story using the video game “Minecraft” as a bridge in their discussion. The younger students were eager to learn about the creation story and provide their own examples to their group leaders. A teacher involved with one group recognized the impact the upperclassman are having on younger students. It is a beautiful example of how the activities this week encourage both younger and older students to learn from each other and to strengthen their bond as a community.
